As we approach the next New Moon, we may start feeling the influence of action-oriented Mars. Just to remind the reader, throughout the next lunar month we are expecting to experience a certain degree of restlessness, action, movement. This is likely to play out both collectively and individually, but everybody will go through this phase differently. This is not to say that Mars is a ‘bad influence’ at all, that’s old-fashioned astrology. However, we should take into account the action-oriented nature of its two-year cycle. Moreover, as we approach important phases of the Sun – Mars and Mars – Pluto synods, some kind of social, political or financial adjustments may become necessary. Overall, the New Moon opens a complex, potentially unstable chapter, with its partile quincunx to Uranus and the opposition to Chiron. It may set the tone for the six months to come, until the Chironian New Moon in Aries of April 2022, which will fall at 11 Aries. The underlying energy relates to wounded Egos, a struggle for supremacy, the realization of widespread injustice. You can read more about it in my recent article: Shifting Balance.
We should perhaps turn our eyes towards the Far East, where the Taiwanese question seems to have reached another important turning point. In the wake of the Chinese Revolution, the Taiwanese Government (ROC), was relocated to Taipei on December 7 1949. That still constitutes an important mundane chart for the region. The coming New Moon in Libra shows rebellious, shocking Uranus at the Eastern horizon in Taipei, with a service-oriented cluster in the 6th, and with the degree of the ROC’s libertarian Venus – Jupiter conjunction culminating. Such a strong 6th House emphasis, with Mars within the picture, may relate to military action. We have already seen in the news that the latest Chinese incursions over the Taiwanese airspace have reportedly been the largest so far. The New Moon will fall over the Taiwanese chart’s South Node – Neptune conjunction in Libra. This may signify some sort of release is likely to become necessary, some form of looking at collective issues which are still lingering from the past. This particular lunation, as it precedes an important Sun – Mars conjunction which directly addresses China, should perhaps ring alarm bells.

The next Full Moon will fall at 27 Aries, therefore bringing this lunar month to a nervous culmination. The scenario is further aggravated by a Cardinal T-Square; with the waning Mars – Pluto square energizing the whole scenario, strong challenges may lie ahead. Interestingly, the Full Moon chart shows Pluto at the Descendant, with Mars and the Luminaries squaring the horizon. The culminating degree will coincide with that of the Chinese Republic’s North Node (October 1 1949).
It is interesting to observe that Taiwan was transferred to China back on October 23 1943, under a Mars – Saturn conjunction at 24 degrees of Cancer. Pluto is already practically stationing direct at 24 Capricorn, in exact opposition to that degree. The planet has been in opposition for more than a year now, so this particular station may signify the final turning point at which a decision is taken. Considering the archetypal forces involved, coercion seems to characterize this whole story. This is another indication that issues from the past will possibly tend to arise in the Pacific region. This does not necessarily indicate an invasion of the island, but a definitely tense climate is going to be visible for sure. This increases the probability of military accidents.
In Mars – Pluto and the Pandemic, I have explained the relationship between this Mars – Pluto synod and the pandemic. No doubt we are approaching another turning point, when new challenges may actually arise. That is possibly related to the emergence of new information about the origins of this virus, as the eyes of our world may start to be pointed over China for weeks.
The USA, whose 1776 chart shows a predominant Sun – Saturn square over 13 degrees of Cancer/Libra, is also going to be affected by this particular lunation. In Shifting Balance I have explained that this particular New Moon in Libra will be rising over Washington DC. The current administration’s Inauguration Chart (A Tough Ride Ahead) has the Progressed Moon in conjunction to a complex Mars – Uranus conjunction in the 12th. We should not be surprised if a potential accident may spark sudden agitation for a while. Hopefully these heightened tensions will subside quickly and result in a peaceful agreement.
