I’ve been watching people closely and analysing the energies awakened by the current New Moon; the insights offered by this Lunar Month are remarkable.
Interestingly, over the last few days I have perceived extreme and widespread contraction, mixed with unnerving idealism, impatience and vision. The general public is now paying more attention to social issues more than ever. People have been approaching me and raising large-scale political, financial and ideological issues. These are localised manifestations of the early stages of this powerful Aquarian month (read my previous post for more about the New Moon).
Astrologer André Barbault, one of the greatest in mundane research, wrote at length about the so-called ‘Planetary Index’. The extremely idealistic, and possibly utopian energies of this very month are quite indicative of a tight concentration of planets within a relatively narrow area of the zodiac. The current planetary configuration occupies only 113 degrees out of 360! If we consider also the North Node as a generally sensitive and meaningful point in mundane astrology, that index only rises up to 143 degrees. I’m not surprised to see and feel a seemingly insurmountable disparity between ideological projections and physical manifestations at this particular point in history. As Mars and the inner planets move on, things may begin to tangibly shift. However, the big picture suggests that no significant global boom is foreseeable before 2026.
In other words, the 2020 impasse continues to stay with us, due to its enormous inertia, partially symbolised under the guise of a low Planetary Index. The degree of social contraction we are now just beginning to widely question is not easy to erase. However, it is at times of major conjunctions that we envision the future.
2021/22 will constitute an extended phase of social battles and ideological reformations aimed at dismantling the latest global contraction. The Saturn-Uranus square will be with us for months, so the level of social unrest, humanitarian awakening and freedom fighting so far witnessed are the beginning of a profound transformation for humanity at large.
The world impatiently waits to see what happens with the US Election… Can astrology really help us cast any predictions? On October 31st a unique Full Moon will fall at 8Taurus38, in very close conjunction with Uranus the ‘Awakener’. Being the second Full Moon which occurs this month, we can consider it a ‘Blue Moon’.
What can we expect from such a revolutionary astrological event?
Indeed, the upcoming US Presidential election will be strikingly noisy, to say the least. Whatever the outcome, the planetary configurations at play suggest that a great deal of social movement will occur. Uranus ‘awakens’ the masses, raising collective and humanitarian issues. Traditionally, astrology associates it with high-level leadership and decision-making, as opposed to the executive nature of Saturn. In other words, Uranus is often prominent where issues concerning the ultimate decisional power of a nation are most active. Therefore, Uranian influence generally becomes manifest through parliamentary issues. Under Uranian force, the attention shifts to the ‘group’, and the collective psychological scenario sees a resurgence of collectivist ideals. With Uranus featuring so prominently within a mundane astrological chart, a great deal of popular excitement usually becomes manifest. Whichever the outcome of the election, we may expect disputes or protests against the results.
Foreign policy issues remarkably dominate the current Libra Solar Ingress chart for Washington DC (read Autumn Equinox 2020 Cosmic Forecast). The current soli-lunar cycle (lunation) directly stimulates the Equinox chart’s descending Mars in multiple ways. Issues regarding foreign policy and direct confrontations with other countries are in fact prominent these days. Evidently, this election is strongly concerned with the country’s relationship with China and the Middle East.
The astrological community has been writing a lot about the Inauguration chart, which suggests a very heated presidency. I will write more about it in due course… let’s get back to our analysis of the Election…
Mundane Analysis of the Election
Going back to the upcoming Full Moon, the chart for Washington DC suggests a very interesting fact. We find an angular Venus-Chiron opposition in Cardinal signs, with Venus in Libra (dignified) elevated by the Midheaven. Also, the MC stands 135 degrees away from the Neptune-Pluto midpoint. With both the MC and 10th House representing the ruling party’s experience, a very complex picture emerges. Venus-Chiron aspects normally carry the essence of wounded idealism. Venus also features prominently within the Autumn Equinox chart, at the very apex of a tight Yod. Similarly, the Virgo Midheaven in the Winder Solstice chart cast for Washington DC is tightly connected with the Venus/Neptune midpoint. Interestingly, the MC and its significators are involved with Neptunian configurations in those three mundane charts. At the time of the next Full Moon, retrograde Mercury will be involved in an applying square to Saturn in Capricorn, which strongly suggests difficulties and delays with the bureaucracy of the election. Interestingly, on Election Day Mercury will station direct under the same strenuous and static square to Saturn. It will take a few days for it to clear the area and move on. We may witness some kind of general reassessment.
The big picture suggests a messianic, yet compromised and possibly scandalous feeling associated with the ruling party
On the other hand, we find a retrograde Mars in Aries (also dignified) as the ruler of the IC (the opposition party’s experience) within the Full Moon chart. Despite being resentfully bullish, that Mars is also involved in a very complex planetary configuration. Its long retrogradation has been fomenting lots of anger and restlessness around the world lately, as it goes about reassessing its own assertiveness. This means that, despite being dignified in Aries, it still has a lot to work on before it clears up its own clutter. Remarkably, it will be clear from those squares to the Jupiter-Saturn-Pluto trio by the Inauguration in January! Until that day arrives, we may expect reversals and sharp turns. The energies will be wild indeed in November. On Inauguration day, it will also align with Uranus, gaining renewed strength and pushing forward through Taurus.
This very complex picture suggests that whichever party happens to win the election, there may be issues with the immediate results. The losing faction may ask for recounts and there may be confusion all around for weeks. It is possible that social unrest be instigated by the losing party
This consideration, simple as it is, constitutes an important part of our analysis, because it underlines the expectable instability of this election.
The Two Candidates
The astrological signature of this election is quite interesting, when looking at the individual lives of our two candidates. Donald Trump is going through an exciting Nodal return, with the transiting North Node reigniting his natal Sun-North Node configuration which naturally puts him in the social spotlight. A powerful, visionary Sagittarian Solar eclipse will fall in opposition to the same area of the zodiac in December. Interestingly, as these degrees seem to be strongly activated in the coming months, we can observe how both Trump and Xi Jinping will experience a strong planetary influence over their respective Gemini Suns. On the other end of the spectrum we find Joe Biden with an extenuating transit of Neptune across his Piscean IC, during a year which has had him involved with several issues reemerging from the past. Also, his chart ruler Jupiter is still being opposed by the forceful Capricornian trio, raising issues of morality and judgement. This long standoff acts over his 2nd/8th House axis, raising for him issues of a financial nature as well. This may in fact suggest big financial losses; however, which candidate does not lose lots of money after a presidential campaign?? Astrologically speaking, Biden is experiencing very consuming transits indeed, yet as a Democrat with Neptune in the 10th House and a self-redeeming Sun-Venus-Chiron square, he might even end up having to play the role of popular messiah described in the mundane charts, as discussed already. Even if such were the case, he would not really be able to do so without facing powerful dissolving energies all around.
In simple words, Trump is in a ‘building phase’, Biden is not.
Generally speaking, there is a very close connection between Trump and the American Independence chart, as it was the case for past Presidents. Astrologically, there is evidence about the recurrence of natal placements around 20-24 degrees of Mutable signs in the natal charts of US presidents, regardless of their popularity. In fact, we need to keep good perspective in all this, and remember how even ‘unpopular’ leaders may in fact be serving an important mission which is in accordance with the long-term divine plan.
Our present as gateway to the future
Years of astrological research have shown me that there is no ‘mistake’ whatsoever in the unfoldment of collective dynamics. The feelings which arise during a certain historical period are simply representative of an experience which the contemporary population is bound to go through, in order to develop awareness and move forward towards the next step in the cyclical unfoldment of historical phases. Living in the present, it is reasonable to actively judge and interact with the ongoing issues, yet it may be highly constructive to look at the big picture and realize the importance of the historical shift we are now facing.
This election has to be put into perspective, considering that the nation is currently approaching both its Pluto return and the second Neptune opposition. The last time Neptune opposed the placement it held at the time of the 1776 Independence Declaration was in the mid-1800s, at the time of the Civil War. Old social issues are visibly resurfacing all across a nation which is not sure whether to clear out its colonial past or acknowledge the historical value of those actions which the making of this great country entailed.
Wishing the best for a country which now stands on the verge of evolutionary change.
All the best, USA!

The Autumn Equinox has arrived, the Sun slides into the Southern Celestial Hemisphere. In Mundane Astrology, one cannot overestimate the importance of quarterly ingresses of the Sun. The moment the Sun enters one of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn) contains astrological clues about the months to come. This year’s Libra Ingress of the Sun will occur on September 22nd, under a series of interesting planetary aspects.
A complex Saturn – Uranus waning square is approaching, while unbalance and discomfort continue to dominate the world view. The current planetary configuration in Capricorn has obviously unleashed enormous amounts of energy. All this comes with the flavor of the most conservative of astrological signs. Concurrently, a fastidious semi-square between Uranus and Neptune participates in the whole story; no wonder why humanity is still looking for a way to clear out the fog and move forward with decision.By looking at next year, a specific configuration becomes prominent; in fact, an extensive Saturn – Uranus square in fixed signs will dominate 2021, remaining within orb throughout most of 2022.
A highly charged configuration, it will occur right after a long period of social, political and economic destabilization. The long square will trigger profound changes all over the world. The interval between two successive Saturn – Uranus conjunctions is around 45 years long. Such period visibly marks an entire cycle along the cyclical reorganization of social dynamics. The 29-year cycle of Saturn resonates with both individual and collective growth. Its ultimate meaning is that of grounding ideas into reality. On the other hand, the 84-year cycle of Uranus is related to slower evolutionary trends; it addresses the ebbs and flows of ideological and intellectual force. While Saturn sets the boundaries of that which we create materially and methodically, Uranus looks beyond; it opens doors to the realm of idealism and freedom. Obviously, the interaction between these two planets is generally accompanied by turbulent reshuffles within society.
Each conjunction sets the stage for a new half-century phase in which society at large seeks a different governmental/ideological balance. By looking at past Saturn – Uranus cycles, we get a clear idea of the rhythm at which leadership currents change on a large scale. André Barbault’s book ‘Planetary Cycles – Mundane Astrology” contains a clear description of such phenomena.
What times are we living in?
We are currently approaching the last quarter of the current Saturn – Uranus cycle, which started with a conjunction period in 1988. It will end in 2032 with another conjunction. The last quarter of each cycle starts off the disintegration of obsolete structures. This brings a period of crisis necessary for the discovery of newness by the time a new conjunction occurs. The end of the 1980s was obviously a time of turbulent upheaval; the major outcome of the latest Saturn – Uranus conjunction was the fall of the Eastern bloc. This caused the consequent shift of power towards the West. The disintegration of the USSR was an utter manifestation of the instability of Saturn – Uranus alignments. Such planetary interactions provoke rapid shakeups within the world of structure and control.
Saturn is akin to traditions and the Establishment while the nature of Uranus is both sudden and cold-blooded. As a result, under Saturn – Uranus aspects the foundations of society at large shake badly due to society’s desire for change.
As the USA face their Pluto return (this means that Pluto is now transiting the same area of the zodiac where it was in 1776), a profound metamorphosis is occuring within the country. Also, Neptune is currently opposing the position it holds within the Independence Chart. This is the main reason why new social movements are developing nationwide. The next Inauguration Day will occur under a complex configuration of great importance. In January 2021, the above-mentioned Saturn – Uranus square will be accompanied by Jupiter in close conjunction with Saturn in Aquarius. In other words, the Inauguration of US Presidency will occur between the upcoming Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in early Aquarius and the first hit of the Saturn – Uranus square. Also, Mars will be conjunct Uranus in Taurus, together with the Moon. 2021 Inauguration Day will fall around a very heated First Quarter Soli-Lunar phase.
This shows us that the next US Presidency will be about enacting a forceful reorganization of structures and social balance. This relates to the fact that in the Inauguration chart such an unstable planetary alignment will dominate two Fixed Signs. The Moon will accompany Mars and Uranus in a financial sign, so civil unrest is not likely to subside at all.
US & the EU
There are grounds to determine that 2021 will represent a long standoff between ‘conservation’ and ‘renovation’. Obviously, the Saturn – Uranus waning square will affect many countries, and not just the USA; the current balance of forces within the European continent may need to be reassessed as well. This is because the early degrees of Fixed Signs has played a prominent role along the European Union’s history.
The three Saturn – Uranus squares will occur between 7 and 13 degrees of Aquarius and Taurus, two Fixed signs. This indicates that the upcoming destabilization will affect whatever survives by inertia within the social, political and economic scene. Such planetary stimulations are also liable to trigger powerful geological or environmental instability, including historical earthquakes, explosions or eruptions. We may assist to environment-related breakthroughs, and our relationship with planet Earth may change, hopefully in positive ways. As long as humanity succeeds in controlling its environmental impact, the upcoming planetary struggle will prove to be constructive.
All countries and organizations carrying important planetary configurations within the same degrees will be affected throughout 2021. Among those we find India, China, Russia, Germany, the United Kingdom, NATO, the United Nations and the European Union. Russia is approaching its Saturn return, and this appears as an upcoming phase of national reassessment. The domestic changes many countries and organizations are likely to experience will set the stage for the upcoming global reorientation.
The current cycle started from late Sagittarius in 1988; it coincided with a powerful crackdown of the bipolar political struggle which had been ruling the world since WWII. In fact, it directed humanity towards the expansiveness of a fast-growing globalization phase.
As the old saying goes, ‘history repeats itself’. So long as humanity becomes genuinely aware of its own evolutionary process, each crisis heralds a better future!
On July 20th a New Moon falls at 28Cancer27, in tight opposition to Saturn. This is a very important detail which denotes a remarkable amount of heavy energy around the current lunar month. Saturn is often regarded as an “ominous” presence within the zodiac, yet we need to recognize its positive qualities as well, in order to fully understand the enormous depth which characterizes its 29-year cycle. It is absolutely undeniable that whenever Saturn is involved in any astrological event, heaviness, hardships and a generalized sense of “slowdown” are perceived. It is not a case that the word “lockdown” is so popular in the year in which Saturn and Capricorn have been so prominently engaged. On the other hand, we should recognize how immediately discernible manifestations of its astrological influence are profoundly linked with conscious growth and responsibility.
By looking at the current New Moon configuration, a clear emphasis of such themes is evident. The tightness with which the Sun-Moon conjunction opposes retrograde Saturn in Capricorn is not so often reproduced in the skies. The more uncommon or tighter an aspect is, the more significance it acquires, astrologically speaking. We have already seen how the end of July gave rise to a confused “second COVID-19 wave within the first”, especially in the US. The effects of retrograde conjunctions of slow planets, such as the Jupiter-Pluto one which became exact for the second time on June 30th, are coincident with times of generalized social reassessment and ideological reorientation. The high degree of confusion, together with the new wave of social restrictions, was clearly aligned with the astrological event in question. Under such climate, we are now entering a lunar month which is profoundly characterized by a high degree of disciplined force. This could indicate that the global order, both politically and socially, might experience further reorganizations, perhaps quite evidently. An interesting feature transpires from this synodic month, as the New Moon makes a very tight opposition to taskmaster Saturn, whereas the subsequent Full Moon, which occurs on August 3rd at 11Aquarius45, creates a T-Square with Uranus in Taurus. Also, the New Moon-Saturn opposition acts over the Cardinal signs of Cancer and Capricorn, whereas the Full Moon is Aquarian and squared by its own co-ruler. What does this all mean?
In simple words, the lunar month brings the “seed” of restoration, but its culminating experience will be related to some acts of sudden destabilization. Evidently, we are still in a phase which potentially brings further uncertainty and instability in order to make enough room for a new global order. In this case, the concept of “global order” does not resonate with any conspiratorial themes, but simply to the fact that the profound shifts which society is facing are already provoking a much needed re-balancing of political, social and possibly spiritual themes as well. This might not be readily evident, unless we carefully look at the big picture, also considering the historical phase during which the powerful Capricornian awakeninghas been taking place.
Interestingly, the New Moon-Saturn opposition lies on the meridian axis over Florida, one of the regions most aggressively hit by the pandemic. Again we can observe the lack of randomness in the unfoldment of global events, as they closely reflect the prevailing astrological circumstances.
The Aquarian Full Moon which occurs on August 3rd clearly suggests a high degree of instability, as mentioned already. Also, the humanitarian crisis that is becoming so largely evident is set to be gifted with newer developments. Sectors such as the shipping industry are suffering so intensely under the ongoing wave of restrictions, which has removed any sort of fluidity from regular crew exchanges in an unprecedented manner. Thousands of seafarers still remain stuck on board all sorts of vessels waiting for the slightest hope to get back to their home countries; similarly, huge numbers of workers are waiting to get a new contract, still unable to fly out of their own countries with commercial flights.
It is worth considering the possibility of such dynamism being reflected onto the territory as well. In other words, in early August we might expect intense seismic activity, especially in the Far East, where the Sun-Moon opposition acts over the Meridian Axis, while crossing some important fault lines.
On the same day, Mars in Aries will square Jupiter in Capricorn, giving rise to great ideological zest. The revolutionary power of the upcoming Full Moon is remarkable, and it might deeply affect all those countries born in the late 1940s, when Pluto was at 10 degrees of Leo. Those nations are currently experiencing the long square of Uranus to their natal Pluto placements; mundanely, this transit can be seen as an ongoing dismemberment of deeply ingrained and power-related national dynamics. With Uranus-Pluto aspects, there is an inescapable collective need to face the unknown, and this very process inevitably leads toward a regenerative yet scary encounter with darkness.
On July 25th Mars will enter its shadow, as it crosses the 15th degree of Aries, still moving with direct motion. This means that it passes the point at which it will station direct on November 14th. Evidently, a long season characterized by a literal “reorientation of individual drive and fighting spirit” has already started. In simple words, the long retrogradation of Mars in Aries, a sign which it rules, will square the ongoing gathering of heavy planets in Capricorn, which is unmistakably linked with the unprecedented wave of social change we are currently living through.
To summarize, those whose birthdays fall near July 20th or January 20th may experience a year of increased responsibilities dominated by a generalized sense of slowdown. Limitations may be imposed by either external or inner circumstances, and the way to success will be found mainly through acceptance. Those whose natal Moon is placed around 28 degrees of Cancer or Capricorn will particularly experience such pressure at an emotional level. With the Moon ruling the basic instinctual functions of body and mind, a year of inner reorganization will help in building a solid foundation, though painful or strenuous it may feel.
The Full Moon will fall across the 12th degrees of Aquarius-Leo. Those whose birthdays fall around August 3rd or February 3rd will enter a year of important changes which mainly concern relationships. With a Full Moon being so tightly aspected by Uranus, there may also be separations. All in all, the outcome will be an unrestrained call for freedom and rational understanding. The closer either the Sun or Moon are to the degrees of the current lunar phases, the tighter the aspect in the Solar Return chart; therefore, the stronger the effect will be over the coming months.
As Mars enters its retrogradation period, important developments will hopefully bring more clarity into a poignantly confused world.
Relating to the latest article “Two Eclipses show us the Healing Path”, sudden volcanic activity has occurred in Stromboli, a small island in the Southern Tirrenian Sea. The transit of Mars over the 12th degree of Aries, in applying square to the recent Capricornian Lunar Eclipse has definitely ignited powerful geological forces, as expected. As I specified previously, more research is obviously needed on the subject. The current astrological knowledge allows us to identify the major stressing factors which are likely to determine powerful geological developments in certain areas of the globe.

The end of this month is likely to bring further developments about the current social, cultural and political situation. We have recently experienced a significant Solar Annular Eclipse in the initial degree of Cancer, whose configuration is described in a previous article called “The Great Eclipse” . Remarkably, the connection between the eclipse and the Indian territory manifested in a literal way, with deadly clashes occurring along that very border with China; that region was clearly emphasized by the eclipse’s configuration. As already specified in different articles, every conjunction represents a moment of “oblivion” in which a new seed is being planted, but full awareness of the new dynamics is not there yet. At the beginning of each astrological cycle, such as the occurrence of a Solar Eclipse, there is consciousness at play, but it still works underneath a shadowy blanket. Further developments might be experienced by the next Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse and when Mars squares the eclipsed degree. In general, we can tell that for a few years, whenever important configurations reactivate the initial degrees of Cardinal signs, significant developments will be observed globally.
Also, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck Southern Mexico this morning, followed by a significant swarm. At the epicenter, the Solar Eclipse fell within 4 degrees from the IC, or Lower Meridian. The IC is generally emphasized when matters related to the territory become relevant. Despite the fact that the Sun-Moon conjunction was exactly aligned with the meridian angle around 400 Km away from the epicenter of the strongest quake of the series, the Pacific fault line has evidently released some stored energy only a couple of days from the occurrence of that major eclipse. We know how seismic phenomena act as the release of stored tectonic energies, and there is astrological evidence that significant eclipses tend to act as powerful triggers. The “energetic unlocking” effects which eclipses seem to have on the planet are not only manifested as specific dynamics which arise among the human society, but they can relate to the environment as well. Major earthquakes, eruptions or tsunamis are generally linked with powerful eclipses which previously formed specific configurations along or across sensitive fault lines or in areas of high volcanic activity. “Previously” does not necessarily mean hours or days before the event, because the eclipse in question can happen even years before; consequent activations of its overall planetary configuration seem to “re-trigger” the same releasing dynamic. A lot of research obviously has to be done yet, but hopefully a day will come in which we can properly connect the cosmic dynamics with the long-term evolutionary processes of planet Earth.
A multiple activation of the 13th degree of Cardinal Signs will soon recall the configuration of a previous eclipse which has been significantly connected with geological activity in the Mediterranean. This means that July could bring increased volcanic activity in Southern Italy.
Astrologically speaking, the first week of July appears to carry a special charge. The following events will be of particular relevance:
June 28th – Mars’ Aries ingress and stimulation of recent Cancer Solar Eclipse
June 30th – 2nd Jupiter-Pluto conjunction (retrograde)
July 1st – Sun-Mercury inferior conjunction at 9 degrees Cancer square Chiron in Aries; Saturn enters Capricorn
It goes without saying that those days are quite likely to bring enhanced dynamism around the globe.
First of all, the ingress of Mars into Aries will definitely act as a catalyst for that fiery energy which has expressed itself in a very ideological way all around the globe. The previous lunar cycle, as specified in “The Dance of Fire“, has visibly brought an intense wave of dynamism which manifested through both violence and extreme idealism. The Mars-Neptune interaction has proved to be quite influential in the current wave of change which is visibly shaking the foundations of what we considered to be a solidly structured society.
The current retrogradation of Mercury is bringing lots of information out into the open, such as the publication of Michael Bolton’s book “The Room Where it Happened: A White House Memoir“, which has had a huge journalistic impact all across the globe. With Mercury moving retrograde across the 13th degree of Cancer, which is the zodiacal position of the US’ Independence Sun, the release of presidential information comes with a strong symbolic support.
As already specified in a recent article, the current retrogradation of Mercury is likely to bring out important revelations. This is both related to the Sun-Mercury-Chiron square, and the fact that it occurs in an area of the zodiac which is strongly linked with the US’ Independence Chart. Hopefully, the Sun-Mercury-Chiron square which characterizes the inferior conjunction of July 1st, will bring the necessary knowledge which can have the potential to initiate humanity towards the healing path, during this very complex historical phase.
The second hit of the current Jupiter-Pluto conjunctionwill occur on June 30th and it is likely to magnetize the weeks to come. Saturn enters Capricorn again on July 2nd, and a powerful energetic shift is impending. This whole astrological picture may bring a second wave of restrictions, but it may not be as dramatic as the previous one, if the knowledge acquired since the initial outbreak is utilized properly. Nevertheless, with Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto teaming up in the same sign again, a certain feeling of heaviness is likely to revisit many of us. Those who carry sensitive natal configurations in Cardinal signs are likely to experience important developments. This is also relevant for those nations whose charts show similar planetary placements, such as Italy, whose Venus-Saturn conjunction at 21-23 degrees Cancer will be powerfully reactivated by the second Jupiter-Pluto conjunction. In other words, July will bring those two slow-moving planets into a similar alignment as the one which occurred in March, at the time of the initial lockdown. Maybe it will all result in a different dynamic characterized by the useful awareness gained during a long phase of difficulty and sorrow.
The Jupiter-Pluto retrograde conjunction will come together with the powerful stimulation of the recently eclipsed degree by square. Mars will cross the Vernal point, or 0 Aries, forming a square with the longitude where the latest Solar Eclipse occurred.
The concomitance of different celestial configurations, at the time of a first stimulation of Mars onto the eclipsed degree, is likely to be linked with the reemergence of widespread tensions. This may either involve the India-China standoff, or the overall social and political balance between influential nations. Also, the stock market is likely to be profoundly affected by the close occurrence of these sequential events; we may expect increased market volatility, and perhaps a downturn around the end of June and beginning of July.
This powerful series of celestial events will peak with a Lunar Eclipse which occurs on July 5th at 13Capricorn37, in opposition to the US national Sun. Presidential dynamics are likely to become prominent, during a phase in which the ongoing energetic shock of the recent Solar Eclipse will come to fruition. During those days, all eyes might be on the White House.
2020 has been a year of major change, which will surely bring us into a more authentic world. The process is likely to be lengthy and painful, because the current dismantlement of social structures and limitations entails a great deal of work. We should perhaps begin looking at the month of July with great optimism, because it will somehow reignite the necessary energy which is needed to start walking out of the fear-ridden trench we have dug for ourselves.

There is a widespread belief about the astrological world being linked solely with prediction. Throughout the latest centuries, the philosophical depth of this discipline has been put aside, or at least partly demeaned. In a world which finds itself more and more identified with materialism and individualism, there seems to be a great need for event-related predictions. Though this still remains a valuable idea within the vastness of the astrological philosophy, we should never forget how this archaic form of knowledge is rooted in the study of resonances, rather than mere manifestations. In other words, we should be seeing the world we live in as a place which simply represents the fruit of much more mysterious trends; the connections which exist among different layers of existence act on a level of “meaning”, rather than “form”. As specified in “Fate and the Journey of Life”, those trends are intrinsic to Nature itself, whereas the events which we witness with our eyes are manifestations of a deeper scheme. The framework appears to have been set up by laws which we do not fully understand today, and it is shown as a long-term unfoldment of cyclical forces. This “scheme” might be referred to as an “Implicate Order of things”, a term coined by the American physicist David Bohm, who talked about “resonances” from a scientific point of view. It may be worth pondering upon the fact that some people manage to transcend the limits of common understanding and get a glimpse of this underlying state of things. In my opinion, it is not quite right to perceive some form of superiority in the act of “connecting” with what’s beyond, because it is simple work of the human being – divinely gifted as he is – to bridge the gap between the seen and unseen. Psychic work makes use of those unexplored and obscure faculties of the extraordinarily complex human mind. There is obviously a series of bio-chemical processes at work within the human body, but such does not fully explain human experiences such as “genius”, “love”, “passion” and so on. There are visible and quantifiable changes in biorhythms when such emotional forces set in, however, deterministic observation does not fully explain the individuality of life. Not even by resorting to the idea of “chaos” governing our lives, can the uniqueness of individual life be justified entirely. By uniqueness I refer both to gifts of life, such as talent, as opposed to the fatefulness many lives are obliged to go through. Also, the individuality of life poignantly emerges in family relationships, with the quite common dichotomy between parental interests and the predisposition of children. If there is randomness all over, why are children not always “molded” according to their parents’ wishes? Why do unfulfilled lives emerge, when high levels of psychological conditioning get established within familial structures? Psychological knowledge has gone far into these issues, and it is dutiful to cite the work of Liz Greene, who has merged astrological knowledge with psychological research in a most illuminating manner.
When looking at the inner landscape of an unfulfilled life, we identify an unfollowed innate imprint, which we might wish to call “predisposition”. If there is a blueprint to life, how can there be total randomness in the unfoldment of life? The astrologer knows there is no randomness in the realm of existence. Interestingly enough, Bohm, whose open-mindedness took him close to the mystical and philosophical worlds, gained a clear perception of this indirectly perceivable order of things. So did Einstein, but also the greatest religious mystics of all Ages, so did philosophers, and obviously astrologers as well. Astrological research shows that visionary people are commonly born under prominent aspects which involve the outer planets (Uranus, Neptune and Pluto); generally, such alignments would also involve either the Luminaries (Sun and Moon) or personal planets (Mercury, Venus, Mars). With the inner cycles representing the cosmic manifestation of more accessible forces, their interaction with outer planets often provides the human being with the capacity to tap into the unseen. Whenever this does not happen, we can often retrace a historical, familial or societal choice which generally has the power to condition the expression and acknowledgement of an individual’s innate combination of personal and transpersonal archetypes. The spiritually or philosophically inclined individual may in fact struggle enormously to socially emerge in a fashion which is fully conversant with his own predisposition. If, for instance, one is born under a tight Sun-Uranus configuration, whose reactionary power is enhanced by other factors within the natal chart, there may be a strong, undeniable tendency towards revolutionism and eccentricity; on the contrary, a Sun-Saturn individual obviously tends to find purpose in the rule of law. The intrinsic, profound and incommensurable difference between Sun-Uranus and Sun-Saturn individuals becomes greatly evident in the outer world, yet it may be unconsciously harboring within the individual’s psyche for many years or even the entire life, if not enough awareness is developed. The development of the necessary level of consciousness which is required to overcome the obstacles which hinder the free expression of certain natal configurations is often triggered by important transits, directions and progressions. For instance, the astrologically-conversant reader is well aware of phenomena such as the Saturn returns, or the astrological midlife crisis (with Uranus in opposition to its natal placement and Neptune and Pluto squaring theirs), knowing the importance of such phases of life. These turning points of the individual and collective development – such as in the case of nations and organizations – are indicative of profound inner changes, and not necessarily of outer, quantifiable and visible events. In other words, the Saturn return is an inner experience of responsibility, whereas the midlife crisis takes the individual into a phase of general reconsideration over the entire purpose of life within society. These watershed phases of life are not necessarily linked with ominous events – a consideration which used to be made quite frequently in the past – but simply of inner steps which life DEMANDS should be taken. There is in fact an inescapable trend which leads one towards inner change when specific ages are reached, but the events, decisions and circumstances which accompany them are not necessarily written somewhere. After all, we cannot even say that some kind of “destiny” is laid out already, because what is perceivable, at the current stage of human conscious development, is nothing else than an “Existential Trend”. A trend defines change over time; therefore, what the astrological researcher, or leisurely interested reader should consider is the existence of a “pace of life”. At times when important configurations descriptive of innate potentials are activated, visible shifts occur within, and possibly without, the individual or the organization affected. It is worth remembering how the USA’s two past Uranus returns have occurred during crucial phases for the nation. The first one occurred in 1860/61, coinciding with the onset of the Civil War and the fight against slavery, whereas the second one occurred in 1944, during the deepest phase of WWII, at the time when the USA was also developing immensely powerful warfare technologies. The next return will occur in 2027/28 and it will undoubtedly coincide with an important phase of social and ideological renovation for the country. Again, the actual events surrounding that astrological occurrence will not be evident to us right now, but it may become possible to intuitively guess what is to come when those times approach. In fact, any physical manifestation is dependent on many factors, which constitute what we would otherwise call the ”prevailing circumstances”. The Uranus return of an internationally influential nation such as the US is an astrological occurrence of no little importance. However, the outer manifestation of the predictable wave of ideological change cannot be foreseen or pre-calculated. This is of the utmost relevance to us, who are living in times when some have harshly criticized astrology because it did not “provide“ a prediction of the pandemic. First of all, most of the people who have put forward such idea are those who know least about this ancient form of knowledge, and usually refer to the most visible, purely commercialized, and highly simplified world of Sun Sign astrology. Also, for those who read from the most eminent astrologers of our times, would have found out about the importance of year 2020 already a long time ago. The “pandemic” would not emerge as such, obviously, but the profound shift of priorities and the globalized return to necessity and self-protection was easily, and perhaps worryingly detectable. Any planet’s position or any astrological configuration are not indicative of EVENTS, but they are accurately descriptive of SOCIAL AND INDIVIDUAL TRENDS. The shift will occur at an ideological level, but whether this will manifest as a war, scientific discovery or border redefinition is not a matter of interest. The reader who is keen on developing a more refined level of astrological understanding should seek to include these considerations in his day-to-day life, learning to better appreciate the existence of an underlying order of things. As Dane Rudhyar used to say, the living entity establishes a “relationship” with the Universe he lives in, and such “relationship-as-a-whole” is to be considered as all-inclusive and governed by multi-layered resonances.
Life is governed by mysterious laws which we do not fully understand; yet they can be, at least partly, decoded by investigating the various ways in which life patterns are echoed all around our planet and the universe.
In life everything occurs through cycles. Even if we do not realize that the circuitousness of events is actually harmonic, the underlying reality points to a series of ebbs and flows, rather than mere linearity. Through modern thought, it is perhaps much appreciated that life is a one-way journey, which returns as much as we give out in the limited time which we have at disposal. This is commonly visible in our modern way of “racing” through our existence, because we want to make the most of it. Not only does this generally manifest through our often destructive monetary greed, or through conformist relational formalization or ambitious professional achievement; perhaps, to the spiritually-oriented astrologer, these are all by-products of society’s modern-day “development“…
Let’s get deeper into the core of this issue, exactly where it becomes quite difficult, if not almost impossible, to clearly discern the boundary between what we want and what life is meant to reserve for us. It is nowadays difficult to let oneself dip into the darkness of the Unknown with faith, or at least the hope that everything unfolds in the way it should. This is not to either deny or demean the reality of suffering which often so strongly characterizes the wretchedness of human life. It seems that the very faculty which we call “intellect” can either drive us into wonderlands or underworlds. Why does the human psyche have to encounter such extremes in life? What lies beyond our discontentment or sorrow? Where does aspiration originate from? Perhaps we will never find clear answers to our questioning of the complexity and uniqueness of the human realm, yet a deeper truth seems to have emerged since immemorial times. This relates to the fact that there is strong evidence of our individual nature being linked to more grandiose realities, which we might normally consider insignificantly distant and unconnected. Spiritual awareness resides where understanding of such intrinsic grandeur emerges. If there is a blueprint to individual and collective life, what does it consist of? Who has decided its form, and where has it been planned? Again, these questions might take us nowhere at all, because they simply represent a human attempt at “rationalizing” the irrational mysteriousness of life. Perhaps we should just say that intrinsic purpose is at the basis of everything which occurs within and without the human being. There is often excessive identification with “events” as if we were entities who navigate the stormy seas of “outer life”, battered by enormous waves which constantly endanger our inner and outer balance. This is only partially true and it remains a mere perception of reality, in my humble opinion. Through years of astrological research and self-exploration, a journey which I only consider to be at its very beginning, I have understood that even the most painful of experiences comes for a reason. I have been searching for an explanation to that reason in the immensity of the cosmos, but there are many ways of doing so. The key here is to understand which way is the most suitable to us for the purpose of searching for a “code of life“. We might think of this as a “de-codification process” or “spiritual research”, yet it just remains a mere human attempt at understanding something which goes way beyond our rational grasp. Though science has been trying to prove everything through “deterministic” methods, we are now approaching a time in history which faces us with a pressing issue: the cause-effect link seems to break apart when we get closer to the “bigger picture” of life. The long-term trends of individual or collective existence do not respond to clear determinism, and so it is for what we would call “fatality” in personal, day-to-day life.
Beyond the threshold of time…
Is there a reason for those most unpleasant stories which unfold in so many people’s lives? Ancient civilizations, and perhaps many people still do the same nowadays, have traditionally found self-assurance in the possibility that “cursing” or even “bad karma” might have the potential to impede the harmonious flow of life. If we step beyond any belief, and try to look at it from a purely humanistic perspective, we might just need to say that we do not know for certain whether past lives exist, and it might be more accessible and perhaps useful for the modern-day individual to explore familial or societal dynamics in order to understand a lot about himself. I would like to give you an example. Let’s take the current year in consideration, because of the intensity of pain, sorrow, restriction, difficulty and darkness which have been tackling society at large. Those mothers who are due to give birth soon, therefore with their babies being “incarnated” during these months, are experiencing their pregnancies at a historical phase for humanity as a whole. The same obviously applies to those who have given birth in the previous months, since January 2020. Those children who are to be born soon (or who are just a few weeks or months old), despite any deterministic attempt at denying such, will definitely carry a powerful psychological, energetic, sociological imprint of these times within themselves. For instance, if the Moon will be placed in one of the four Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn) at the time of birth, they will be born to mothers who have been the most deeply affected by the current situation. This may involve a myriad of factors the entire enlisting of which would be pointless in this article, if not impossible. This consideration about the Cardinal Moon refers to the fact that it will be forming “hard aspects” with the ongoing Saturn-Jupiter-Pluto congregation in Capricorn. Even if Saturn has taken a quick trip into early Aquarius, it will be back into Capricorn soon, reinforcing the still ongoing dismantling process. If the child is born with such a personalized connection with the ongoing slow-planetary configuration, such as that of the Moon aspecting the relevant planets, his or her long-term emotional life will be strongly connected to the ongoing influence. Yes, for some mysterious reason, birth occurs under a space-time configuration (birthplace and birthtime) which uniquely carries planetary placements and configurations which are accurately in resonance with the child’s personal identity. What is important to understand here is that this connection occurs at the level of meaning, therefore symbolically and not factually. If the child is born when the Moon was transiting just past the ongoing Jupiter-Pluto conjunction for example, astrologers of the future would very accurately retrace a specific “event” or “situation”, most probably dramatic and intense, in the mother-child relationship during the pregnancy. This relates to the “secondary regression” of the Moon; which is about retrograding the Moon’s position in the personal horoscope by a degree for each month prior to birth, as if time were running backwards. There is strong evidence in astrology about the cyclicity of time, which in this particular instance translates into an all-out, invertible resonance between time cycles such as a year, a month, a day, and hour and so on. This is a very complex and vast subject, but it remains equally fascinating to the spiritually-oriented individual who is keen on exploring the depths of life. This fascinating, yet very basic example takes us beyond the “determinism” of nowadays science. This is not to undermine the importance and respectability of scientific thought, which has allowed us to elevate our knowledge of the world we live in; the question here is whether we know everything about the causality of life or not…
A “synchronized” universe…
Many scientists are keen to explore what is being perceived as “synchronicity” all around the universe. In quantum physics, phenomena which still remain rationally unexplained are observed, and it is worth citing the work of David Bohm, who managed to reintroduce philosophical and mystical thought in an increasingly determinism-oriented scientific community. His fascinating approach includes the individuation of a “universal flux“, which is often referred to as “holomovement“. He formulated ideas of an Implicate Order and an Explicate Order. In 1980 he published his most famous book called “Wholeness and the Implicate Order“.
In Bohm’s work we encounter important glimpses into the intrinsic correlation between seemingly unrelated elements, with such interaction crossing beyond the realm of physical manifestation. For millennia the spiritual world has been aware of the intricate reality of life, yet it has mainly approached this concept on an instinctual level. In fact, I am quite inclined to believe that humans – and perhaps all other living beings are even more open to this – possess an innate capacity to instinctively perceive synchronism. This could be understood as humans, who belong to the explicate order of things, being instinctively able to tap into the implicate order of the Greater Whole of Existence“.
Our perceptions are often overshadowed by the business of life, which can be both distracting and unfriendly towards any attempt at savoring the underlying beauty of Creation. If you get a feeling that everything is going to be well, even if the current events are being quite disastrous, you may have just witnessed an inner manifestation of your connection with the cosmic Oneness in instinctual, or mental form. If you get chills when you visit Ground Zero at Lower Manhattan you are perhaps connecting with the same invisible, unquantifiable, immeasurable force. It would perhaps be too easy or reductive to connect the chills with mere psychological suggestion; it could obviously be the case, but the nature of such “suggestion” would be psychic indeed.
These correlations, as already specified, can be traced via the astrological analysis of the skies, which easily individuates the recurrence of specific dynamics in accordance with the cyclicity of planetary movements. Every time a specific planetary configuration appears in the skies – by relative motion because we are observers placed on Earth – something happens, but not necessarily in the world of “form”. The shift definitely occurs at a subtle level, in a realm where “feelings” dominate, both individually and collectively. For a while, this year’s alignment of slow-moving planets in Capricorn has been seen by astrologers as a sign of upcoming change. It has been evident that both the most pleasant and unpleasant features of Capricorn would reemerge this year, and that we would need to deal with the “heaviness and stucture” of this Earthy sign. Capricorn’s force relates to method, ambition and responsibility, but the more negative side of its power presents us with fears, restrictions and oftentimes oppression. It is worth referring to the image of mythological Kronos, whom we generally prefer to call Saturn (Roman nomenclature), to better understand the immense level of psychic force being liberated right now all around the world and in every speck of society. Saturn rules Capricorn, therefore its essential meaning is being called to action, throughout a whole year when Saturn, Jupiter and Pluto are to make single or repeated conjunctions with one another. If tyrannical measures, oppression, fear, depression, darkness, hopelessness, sorrow and despair were to emerge this year, was it “written” somewhere that this “inescapable” set of circumstances would need to be met? Perhaps yes, or maybe not; this is not important, anyway.
A much deeper transition is being made these days, and it will represent a thorough transformation of humanity’s most basic structures. Despite the difficulty, we should perhaps try and find ways to embrace change, every single day fighting to find the light of reason during a seemingly endless struggle which will definitely have an end, and a prosperous one. Hopefully we will all reemerge wiser, more considerate and desirous of life.

The following story is a fascinating one, that of a man who carried a unique connection with the ocean. As a solo sailor, he circumnavigated the globe several times, facing the aggressiveness of nature with great courage. His name was Bernard Moitessier.
As a French national born in Vietnam in 1925, he developed a close connection with the ocean during childhood already. He is best known for his 1968 participation to the Sunday Times Golden Globe Race, which he eventually abandoned by carrying on with his circumnavigation, unable to break his natural symbiosis with the vastness of the ocean. The race would start in Plymouth, UK, and each sailor would have to head South, double Cape of Good Hope, and circumnavigate the Globe via an Eastward route.
What emerges from Moitessier’s birth chart is the tight Sun-Neptune trine in Fire signs. Neptune is known for its illusory qualities which, if used constructively, lead to unimaginable levels of creativity. Sun-Neptune aspects are common among navigators of all times, and it is worth looking at why this is the case.
Where the Sun shines in the natal chart, one’s ultimate purpose lies; this refers to one’s best expression of individual identity or, if we prefer, a description of one’s most authentic direction in life. When the Sun forms specific aspects with Neptune, that very purpose meets the demands of the Blue Planet. This means that a person’s life then appears to be closely related to an immense level of sensitivity. Oftentimes, factors which include education, upbringing, culture, religion, or simply one’s decision, do not allow for the most authentic side of Sun-Neptune aspects to be expressed without fears of downfall, therefore we encounter situations in which such natal configurations play out in very negative ways. This was the case with President Richard Nixon, for example, who was born under a Sun-Neptune opposition which, when activated by transits in the 70s, became the ultimate face of the Watergate scandal.
Going back to the more creative side of Neptune, Bernard Moitessier lived in extreme symbiosis with an habitat in which he could encounter his True Self. In other words, the happiness he would gain by experiencing absolute loneliness in the middle of the ocean, was incomparable.
Born under a Sun-Venus-Chiron triple conjunction in Aries, Moitessier embodied the image of a lone warrior gifted with intense idealism; he in fact engaged in an anti-war campaign which promoted the de-nuclearization of the Pacific. With Venus and Chiron accompanying the natal Sun in Aries, one’s life path appears to be linked with a constant search for beauty, however such beauty comes from the understanding and acceptance of pain. It is not a surprise, astrologically speaking, that Moitessier felt like a unique individual, perhaps little understood during his time, who could probably be regarded as a new-age mystic. Neptune is mystical indeed, and here it forms a prominent trine to the Sun-Venus-Chiron configuration. With Aries and Leo involved in this harmonious configuration, both individual achievement and creative pursuit are described. Moitessier blended those two aspects of life by engaging in his record-breaking adventures, during which he could find the inspiration needed to write books of immense poetic value. Also, the triple conjunction in Aries formed a square with Jupiter in Capricorn; the intense level of Cardinality in Moitessier’s chart made him a person who loved, or at least attracted, challenges. Any Sun-Jupiter aspect involve philosophical views, and oftentimes an elevated sense of spirituality. Long-distance travel, either expressed or wished, is generally part of the process of self-individualization for people born under prominent Sun-Jupiter aspects. It is worth remembering how Neptune and Jupiter are connected to each other via their co-rulership of Pisces; therefore, Moitessier carried a strong sensitivity towards the sense of oneness offered by the sea. This generally goes way beyond the dogmatic experiences of religion, unless a strong Saturn is involved in the same natal configuration. Moitessier was a very spiritual man indeed, who found his haven away from land, in the vastness of the ocean. Also, wherever Neptune gets engaged within the natal chart, dreams and imagination thrive. With angular Pluto on the Midheaven, his public image would be linked with the intensity of his own individual nature. Moitessier was both inspired and frightened by his own dreams, a typical effect of the ethereal experience of Neptune and its uncontainable magic…
“There are two terrible things for a man: not to have fulfilled his dream, and to have fulfilled it.”
Born under a Moon-Saturn conjunction in Scorpio, Moitessier also carried a very different side of himself. Astrology, when dealt with psychologically, allows us to explore the inner realm in powerfully instructive ways. Any Moon-Saturn configuration can be difficult to accept, because the demands of the latter are quite different from the essence of the Lunar fluctuations. The delicate emotional realm meets the demands of a strictly regulated world, which oftentimes does not allow for the free expression of feelings and sensations. With the conjunction being placed in Scorpio, Moitessier carried a profound emotionality, gifted with the ability to understand and possibly endure the darkest effects of the human experience. His long periods of retreat would powerfully awaken his need to explore the inner side of life, as demanded by a powerful Moon-Saturn conjunction in Scorpio.
With such aspects, one’s early life is emotionally intense, generally speaking. This normally manifests with the presence of a strong, powerful and demanding mother-figure, who is likely to impose great limitations onto the child’s expression. If his birthtime record is accurate enough, this would also be enhanced by the all-inclusive mother-figure described by the angularity of Pluto on the Cancerian Midheaven. This is obviously an experience of life, and it is not to be regarded as “negative”, nor should we ever “judge” any astrological aspect. Moon-Saturn aspects are powerful and robust, because they ultimately foster inner integrity and the ability to withstand periods of great difficulty. Moitessier was a tough man indeed.
During his most famous adventure, the participation to the 1968 Sunday Times Golden Globe Race, he performed an action which made him historically renowned. After doubling Cape Horn, and having circumnavigated the globe for months, he decided to turn his boat “Joshua” towards the South and head for Cape of Good Hope again, leaving behind any commercial aspirations and competitive pursuits. He strongly opposed the commercialization of yacht races; after all, his connection with the ocean was one of a spiritual type. During his passage through the Indian Ocean he had started considering the option of staying away from Europe, using Yoga to overcome long periods of depression. The long voyage was for Moitessier a way of emotionally purifying himself, a cathartic experience, we can say.
The way he abandoned the race is highly indicative of his intense idealism. This story presents us with an utter manifestation of the resignation of individual will to the forces of the “greater whole”. His renunciation was,at least partly, a powerful Neptunian experience. As he described in his book ‘The Long Way‘, he fired a message by slingshot onto the deck of a passing ship:
“Parce que je suis heureux en mer et peut-être pour sauver mon âme”
“Because I am happy at sea and perhaps to save my Soul”
During the race Saturn was transiting the sign of Aries and, more precisely, the area of his natal Sun-Venus-Chiron triple conjunction. The “hermit experience” is therefore quite a literal manifestation of this transit, which simultaneously activated his natal Neptune by trine and Jupiter by square. Moitessier’s innate connection with the spiritual realm was being reawakened. Pluto in Virgo was still opposite his natal Uranus in Pisces. During the previous years, Uranus and Pluto had formed a prolonged conjunction in Virgo; this is known as the main generational factor which corresponded with the enormous changes which society experienced during the 60s and 70s. During a time of intense social developments, Moitessier had become involved with the ongoing transformation by breaking the boundaries of his own spirituality, seeking redemption and peace among the raging forces which dominate the oceans.
Planetary cycles resonate with the ebbs and flows of our individual lives and do not only appear as collective influences. In fact, the cosmic resonance between different existential forces acts primarily on the individual psyche, determining the “feeling patterns” which accompany us in our daily routines. It is quite important for the astrologer to keep an eye on both the macro and micro realities of human existence. Knowledge comes only partially through the observation and de-codification of worldly events, because the primary focus of astrological thought lies in perceiving our inner fluctuations and listening to what others have to say in regards to how they feel. After all, the old saying goes “As Above So Below“; these words remind us that it is important to keep in mind that the universal resonances act on all layers of our existence. No individual is in fact left behind, regardless of how society, politics, wealth, education, trends, fashion or religion have “shaped and depicted” him throughout life. The astrologer knows that an astrological consultation about the natal chart has the potential to bring out even the most hidden and unexpressed aspects of individual life; the client often asks for that information at a time when he or she is ready to embrace change and move on.
These are games of the universe in the form of utter synchronicity, yes!
Mercury and its cycle…
Mercury is the fastest-moving planet of the Solar System, as it orbits the closest to the Sun. Its cycle lasts about a week short of a Solar year, and it describes what could be called, in a very simplistic and reductive manner, the “cycle of reason“. Obviously this is a mere attempt at over-simplifying the importance of this astrological fellow, to give an immediate impression of its energetic influence to those readers of this article who do not know much of astrology. Being an inner planet, it always appears to us in the same “portion” of the zodiac as where the Sun is traveling, therefore “following” it by relative motion through the signs at varying speeds. Variations in Mercury’s rate of motion are dependent on many factors, the most important of which is the relative position between the Earth, the Sun and Mercury itself. In order to keep this article simple and straightforward, only the main cyclical phases are briefly analyzed here.
The Shadow period
Mercury is said to enter its shadow when it crosses the point of the next Direct station, which will follow the Sun-Mercury inferior conjunction. Similarly, when it exits the shadow, it crosses the point where it made its last Retrograde station, after the superior conjunction. In other words, the redirection of mental energy typical of any retrogradation of Mercury is manifest throughout the whole period between those two dates. However, those weeks have specific phases which accompany them.
When Mercury gets aligned between the Earth and the Sun, it appears as if moving “backwards” against the zodiac, therefore it is said to be moving “retrograde”. Somewhere during that time a conjunction between the Sun and Mercury occurs, as the latter moves backwards through the zodiac, crossing the same longitude of our star. This is referred to as the “Inferior Conjunction” and it is to be regarded as the BEGINNING OF A NEW SUN-MERCURY CYCLE. Its whole astrological configuration, including the influences of other planets, sets the overall “mentality” of the months to come, until the next Inferior conjunction occurs.
When Mercury aligns on the opposite side of its orbit, with the Sun standing between it and the Earth, a new longitudinal conjunction occurs, but this time the planet will be moving with direct motion. This is referred to as the “Superior Conjunction” and it marks a culmination in the Sun-Mercury cycle.
As with each cycle (see various examples in previous articles), every initial conjunction represents a moment of relative oblivion; though change is about to come – and we may get a clear feeling of it – its promises are still shrouded in mystery. The Sun-Mercury inferior conjunction (with Mercury moving retrograde), if it closely aspects a prominent planetary configuration of the natal chart, represents a moment in which we may find ourselves in need of important change. This is often related to our ideas, thoughts and social connections; this is after all a series of topics which are quite important during the era of social media communication and real-time information.
Myth and Reality
Mythological Hermes, the way Mercury was called by the Ancient Greeks, is a figure which perfectly represents the dynamics initiated by the cycle of astrological Mercury. As the “Messenger of the Gods“, Hermes appears as a quite dynamic figure, related to the transmission of information and the interconnection of Souls. It is his vivacity which bestows Hermes with the capacity to maintain its shape-shifting abilities. The symbolism associated is that of the “Trickster”, whom you may need to be wary of at times when he carries important pieces of knowledge with himself.
This allows us to understand how Mercury plays an important role in modern society, whose development seems to be getting more and more related to fast information exchanges, digital and multi-language content, and widely-accessible educational material.
The Astrological Cycle
The following dates give us a snapshot of the ongoing shadow of Mercury:
Mercury has entered its shadow period on June 1st
Mercury stations Retrograde on June 18th at 14Cancer46
Mercury stations Direct on July 12th at 5Cancer30
Mercury exits shadow period on July 26th
Let’s take a close look at the next Sun-Mercury inferior conjunction, which will occur on June 30th, at 9Cancer44.
Two astrological features are quite evident here:
The Sun-Mercury conjunction squares Chiron in Aries
This year’s second Jupiter-Pluto conjunction will have become exact (by retrograde motion) around that time as well.
In my previous articles I have explained how the retrogradations of Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto are possibly due to cause a reemergence of those issues which became so prominent in February-March. Such will allow society to make a few backward steps towards a deeper understanding of the present condition of humanity. The fact that the retrograde Jupiter-Pluto conjunction (the second of three exact hits) will be accompanied by the next Sun-Mercury alignment perhaps gives us an idea of the possibility for “new information” to come out in the global scene. Such information may prove to be extremely useful for humanity, nonetheless it will most probably carry some additional pain. This is because Chiron will form a very tight square to the Sun-Mercury conjunction from Aries, setting a specific tone for the following weeks.
When Chiron-Mercury aspects are involved, there is a feeling of inadequacy in uttering words, thoughts and ideas; confusion may be high, at a time when any piece of new knowledge may even hurt us. During those times, rational thought clashes with the need to redeem ourselves and come to terms with our inner wounds, while our most intimate uncertainties get exposed by the healing powers of Chiron.
The Global Scenario
It is likely that the world may get to know some deeper and more authentic truth about the current situation, as the Sun-Mercury conjunction coincides with the next Jupiter-Pluto alignment. These two heavy planets, in their ongoing rendez-vous in Capricorn, have temporarily crushed many people’s optimistic views and projections. It is probably helpful to note how the beginning of the Mercury’s current shadow of has brought out the results of an international investigation which claimed that China had withheld early COVID-19 data, delaying the international response. Coincidentally, a Presidential declaration marked the US breakup with the WHO. Those were not extremely powerful news, as they easily became shadowed by the ongoing protests which have been raging across the US (read “The Dance of Fire“), partially eclipsing the previous wave of “pandemic fear” and cross-continental rhetoric. As the new Sun-Mercury cycle approaches, we might find out more and more about this whole story.
The next Superior Conjunction will occur at 25Leo09 on August 17th this year, a period which may see us reaping any rewards, if any are to be collected, which derive from our commercial, intellectual or work-related endeavors. This is obviously a wide statement and, despite its generalized value, it does not help us understand what the conjunction actually means. Given the fact that no “opposition” can ever occur between Mercury and the Sun, as seen from Earth, the culmination phase of this very important cycle is considered to be the “external Solar alignment” of this fast-paced planet. If we think symbolically, the inferior conjunction represents a moment in which Mercury is “overtaken” by the Earth in its orbital journey around the Sun; this determines Mercury’s retrograde motion, seen from our planet. Retrograde phases of Mercury are often associated with periods of generalized upset and malfunctioning in life; issues are often said to be arising when Mercury turns on its steps, and, according to some, no major initiatives should ever be taken during those times. This is obviously NOT the case. I am aware that many Sun Sign astrologers strongly publicize this idea, probably because it is quite remunerative and glamorous, however there is much more to it all than meets the eye.
If a new contract is signed or a major purchase is made during a period in which Mercury is retrograde, it does not mean that we will have made an irreparable “mistake” and that we may soon need to completely make up our minds. This can’t apply in such a clear-cut manner at all. A newly-established business may become extremely successful even if you opened it when Mercury was retrograde. Similarly, a new car may be working perfectly for many years even if Mercury was retrograde when you bought it. Therefore, where can we find the Mercurial “trick” in this whole story?
If you open a new webpage while Mercury is retrograde, you can be successful at publicizing it, as long as you faithfully listen to the natural imprint your website acquired at the moment it was established. You may need to become aware of the need to deliver messages which have “introspective” qualities. If the website is about meditation techniques, there is high chance that it will thrive enormously, yet if you intend to make it a voraciously competitive motivational blog it may face some issues. Those “issues” are simply related to the possibility that retrograde Mercury may not carry “front-line activist” tendencies, but rather it primarily looks backwards, fostering knowledge and understanding through hindsight.
With retrograde Mercury in the birth chart one is normally inclined towards a more introspective way of rationalizing facts. There may be more cautiousness around our ideas, and understanding is achieved thanks to the support of inner resources. If a retrograde-Mercury person is not confident about his own intellectual abilities, there may be thousands out there who carry the same natal configuration, showing a high degree of ideological self-reliance. This depends on many factors which include the overall condition of Mercury within the birth chart, upbringing, the society one is grown within, education and so on.
The qualities of retrograde Mercury may in fact give a person the power to see beyond the boundaries of the most immediate reality, if other astrological configurations are supportive of that. The retrograde-Mercury person or organization does not tend to connect with the surroundings through immediate, outwardly-oriented communication, because his mind constantly seeks some kind of deeper understanding. Let’s consider a very simplistic example: if we apply this concept to the act of making an important purchase such as that of a house, this can signify that if the purchase is set to bring out those introspective qualities in us, it will result as a very successful one that has the potential to “feel right” in the long run. This could apply to the purchase of a retreat house by the lake on the mountains, for instance. This is an example which gives us an idea of how astrological thought works on the level of “meaning”, rather than “form”.
To summarize, if your birth chart or your start-of-business’ one have any planets or Angles around either 9 degrees Cardinal (Aries,Cancer,Libra, Capricorn) or 25 degrees Fixed (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius), you might want to look for ways to enhance any information-related traffic which helps you in making a living. Especially if the former criteria is met, considering the peculiar Chironian signature which accompanies the inferior conjunction in June, there may be a need to prepare to let go of something which has been hurtful or insincere, in order to embrace a more authentic way of rationalizing facts and developing ideas.
Similarly, if any of your natal planets or Angles are placed around 5 and 14 degrees Cardinal the upcoming stations of Mercury will be particularly influential for you. Each station is generally felt as a period of temporary uncertainty, due to the several blockages which may hinder our business, travel plans or whichever area of life is addressed by the position and condition of natal Mercury. It is best to step back and release control during those times, otherwise mental exhaustion is risked, especially if the natal chart carries strongly Airy or Mercurial features.
The current astrological climate is so tense that the financial equilibrium is at stake, to say the least. The global economy has come to a great, unprecedented stall. This does not necessarily involve violent predictions which foresee the worst, unimaginable economic scenarios, but it simply reminds us that whatever crisis ALREADY going on in this world is of “historic” importance.
The International Monetary Fund’s Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva, has recently addressed the current economic situation as a period of “Great Reset“; the current situation, she says, is demanding that the most wealthy nations change their course and hopefully help shrink the great divide among different countries that has been rising throughout the last months.
Even in the 21st century, a pandemic has had the absolute power to shake the global economy so badly that we all risk witnessing an utter dismantlement of the global equilibrium. This does not only affect the economic sphere, but it can also lead to military and nationalistic defensiveness or offensiveness. The situation is indeed pretty grim during this Capricornian phase of historic reassessment.
Where does all this destabilizing power come from? Is it really a mere effect of the so-blamed “COVID-19” which, after all, still has to be thoroughly studied, amidst multilateral claims about its questionable danger for those with no underlying medical conditions? Let’s look at this whole situation from a purely astrological perspective, as we try to search for objectiveness during a time which is RULED by inconsistency and multilateral interests.
The current major influence, as explained in “2020 – An Extraordinary Turning Point“, is the concomitant start of two slow planetary cycles in the sign of Capricorn: Saturn-Pluto and Jupiter-Pluto. As specified already, the massive imbalance of the zodiacal panorama towards Earthy Capricorn has evidently resulted in the onset unprecedented challenges which have largely affected the global business. Only one Saturn-Pluto conjunction occurred in January this year, but this does not mean that its influence would just peak at that time. In fact, with astrological transits, we generally have to consider obs simply because they serve as a practical tool for the astrologer in determining periods of intense activity; however, if we look at the current situation in cyclical terms, these major conjunctions in Capricorn have just signaled the start of a long period of change whose effects will remain with us for many years. As specified by the IMF, this is a period of Great Reset; a definition which I find so conversant with the long-term truth that it seems to have been coined in astrological fashion.
The 2020 Archetypal War
Each new cycle brings as a new promise, and not only a temporary crisis; the difference here is that the crisis is so profound because of the importance of those planets involved. Experienced astrologers know that there are inherent differences among each single planetary cycle. In other words, there is a “natural hierarchy” at play, no matter how in times of “wokeness” everybody follows the current trends and starts thinking in egalitarian terms. This is evident because even in the 21st century, social, racial and religious issues unfortunately stain our society in often outrageous ways. What the timeless wisdom of astrological thought can teach us here is that humanity finds growth only through honoring and respecting such differences. The important fact to keep in mind here is that no alignment of Saturn and Pluto ever feels as a “peaceful walk in Central Park”.
As an example, let’s consider the case of a common person born under a tight Sun-Neptune opposition. Here the astrologer identifies an individual predisposition which involves surrender and empathy. However, not everyone born under such a configuration is able to fulfill the “utopian and spiritual” promises of Neptune, because of social, financial and educational pressures which influence the individual since early childhood. This is the main factor that often gives natal Neptunian configurations a “deceptive” and “negative” reputation. An individual’s downfall emerges from the inability to cope with inner demands – which set him apart from the rest of society – which are often opposite to modern trends. The latter are commonly aimed at promoting self-establishment through financial, self-centered achievement. The inner, and often unconscious, attempt at “ignoring” the differences which make each individual on Earth uniquely gifted for his own unique life, leads to very troubled grounds indeed. If you name this hypothetical individual “Richard Nixon“, you find out how Sun-Neptune configurations are also connected with scandals; a typical, yet not necessary, fact in case the person carrying that natal aspect becomes a prominent political figure and decides to suppress his innate predisposition towards non-individualistic endeavors.
Going back to our financial outlook for this year, no matter how “optimistic” and “fair-minded” we want to be, we will always stumble upon the STILL ONGOING Pluto-Saturn-Jupiter astrological dance. One may wonder, why have these times had different repercussions on the various States and Organizations? The answer lies, at least partly, in how the conjunctions have affected national charts.
An outstanding influence is being exerted, first and foremost, on the United Nations‘ foundation chart. The October 24th 1945 chart shows a Mars-Saturn conjunction in Cancer. Such configuration is indicative of the use of organized force which, combined with the remarkable Venus-Jupiter-Chiron-Neptune Stellium in Libra, speaks of “peacekeeping“. This chart is strongly equipped with two starkly opposing configurations, one being highly “disciplined” and “protective” and the other exuding “diplomacy”, “redeeming qualities” and “utopianism”.
The current congregation of heavy planets in Capricorn is intensely and repeatedly activating the Mars-Saturn conjunction in Cancer. This indication alone, which involves a huge and prolonged intensification of pressure on the UN’s chart, is suggestive of heightened tensions which definitely undermine the fighting spirit and structure of an international organization which claims to promote peace and prosperity. Obviously, considering that 23-24 degrees Cardinal are emphasized in many important charts, we understand why the current situation has simultaneously affected various political, social and financial organizations.
Italy has been in the news quite a lot during the past months. Even if some simplistic astrological claims have associated the Italian Republic’s Gemini Sun with “lung-related problems”, the Jupiter-Saturn-Pluto influence has played an important role on the country’s violent involvement with the pandemic. By the time Mars joined the major brigade in Capricorn, Italy and other countries started off with an unprecedented wave of “global lock-down”. The chart of the Italian Republic shows a Venus-Saturn conjunction in Cancer, across 21-23 degrees. It goes without saying that the unexpected dismemberment of social and emotional equilibrium within the country was to undergo immense changes. Those changes have actually just begun because, as Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto will retrograde towards another close opposition to those very degrees, the tension will undoubtedly escalate again. Slow transits to heavy planets are IMMENSELY significant in mundane astrology.
Saturn and Pluto formed an exact conjunction in January, but it was not until Mars joined in that the whole world got alarmed. Simply, Mars ignited an ongoing planetary pressure which had been powerfully building up over the course of months. Coincidentally, with the Lunar Nodes transiting towards the early degrees of Cancer/Capricorn, the planetary siege came at a time when recent eclipses were still actively significant in the same area of the zodiac. This further explains why the transit of Mars through Capricorn earlier this year coincided with the fast-paced dismantlement of freedom and the onset of widespread fear.
On the economic side, it is quite interesting to take a look at the IMF establishment chart, cast for December 27th 1945. The chart shows a massive Jupiter-Saturn square across the same Cardinal degrees, accompanied by Mars, Chiron and the Moon. This complex configuration brings great focus on financially-oriented Jupiter; however, like the United Nations’ chart, it nonetheless carries the same protective, conservatory and tenacious Mars-Saturn conjunction in Cancer. The current buildup of planets in Capricorn is heavily challenging the equilibrium of this chart as well, which inherently carries an intensely charged and complex square whose destabilization can cause real financial trouble around the world.
The New York Stock Exchange was founded in 1792 and it still remains the leading Stock Exchange in the world. The global financial scenario rattles when this chart is heavily influenced by transits, directions and progressions. Once again, we find a significant configuration which spans across the third decanate of Cardinal signs, In this case we find a tight Jupiter-Neptune conjunction in Libra opposing both Saturn and the Moon in Aries. Regardless of the precision of the Moon’s position, given the lack of an official and accurate time for this old chart, an inherent complex within this chart is being powerfully activated during these months. The Jupiter-Neptune conjunction perfectly matches the volatile, yet visionary, force which animates the world’s leading stock exchange. Immense quantities of wealth are circulated through speculative action in one of the oldest trading floors in the world. Saturn in opposition enhances the ability to count on fierce competition and durability. Here we find a slight difference, as Saturn and Neptune are placed respectively in the 26th and 27th degrees of their signs. This might describe the expectable “delayed backlash” which the so far single-wave pandemic may exert on the stock market. This implies that when the inner planets, as well as the Sun, will align with the latter part of any Cardinal signs, at a time when Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto still remain close to each other in Capricorn, all the issues which seem to have partly subdued will most likely reemerge under a new, and perhaps, more aggressive fashion. Change comes in waves, as these degrees will get activated again and again, joining the ongoing dance that is threatening the business-oriented realm of Capricornian conservatism. In this regard, it is worth noting the date of July 20th. On that day a heavily loaded New Moon will fall at 28Cancer27, in tight opposition to retrograde Saturn, which will have reentered Capricorn by then. The four weeks which follow will probably increase volatility in the global financial scene, most likely due to important governmental actions which could be announced by the leading nations.
There seems to be a far deeper entanglement than imagined here, which goes way beyond the pandemic. The global media has been obviously prospering from their suffocating coverage of the COVID-19 craziness which, in its tragedy, has definitely proven a good way of enhancing mediatic activity and, for some, propaganda. In the continuous shifts which the global scene is experiencing, the focus is now directed almost entirely to the ongoing violence which is marring the USA. Who knows what will come next, in a year which, after all, has deeply affected the poorest nations way more than those ones which can afford to raise the winds of warfare.

One may wonder where all the violence and ongoing unrest are originating from, and why a major eruption of the long-standing anger which has been caused by deep and long-existing social issues has occurred right now…
An interesting fact is the ongoing action of the Red Planet in the astrological panorama of this lunar month. For this whole Lunar Cycle the Sun and Mars are in fact remaining interlocked in an ongoing square in Mutable Signs, at a time when Solar Activity remains relatively high. Several factors are determining a tense atmosphere around the globe, however in this article we will focus on the characteristics of the present lunar cycle.
Mars’ cycle lasts for about two years, whereas the Solar journey around the zodiac is obviously a yearly one. The present circumstances have brought the Red Planet in a long and synchronized square with the Sun, which is currently transiting Airy Gemini. This is not a major situation itself, but the fact that the extensive square acts across the first two decanates of Gemini-Pisces is a big statement indeed.
It should be remembered that the USA Independence Declaration chart (July 4th 1776), which is commonly used in mundane astrology when it comes to national affairs, shows Uranus and Mars on the 8th and 21st degrees of Gemini, respectively. On July 4th 1776 Mars also formed a square with Neptune at 22 degrees of Virgo. Evidently, major planetary activations of those Mutable degrees have proved to be historically influential for the USA. The current Sun-Mars transit is not a major, long-standing influence over the national horoscope, but the concomitant presence of Neptune at 20 degrees of Pisces definitely enhances the meaning of this prolonged aspect between our Star and the Red Planet.
In simple words, Mars’ cycle is determinant of self-oriented actions and individualistic drive, whereas Neptune’s contacts are evidently linked with loss of direction, in favor of greater unity and unified consciousness. When these two archetypal forces are connected to each other, whether this happens in a natal chart, through progressions, directions or transits, strength meets sacrifice. The combination can either be extremely creative or destructive. Many artists carry such aspects in their natal charts; these astrological features are in fact known to increase the capacity for “glamorizing” and “self-idolizing“. On the other hand, any strong Mars-Neptune influence can result in blind violence and the adoption of a cause which, to the individuals and communities affected, appears as “redeeming and just”. In either ways, because Neptune is involved, the collectivity is affected as well.
Neptune’s realm is always a hall of mirrors.
The Astrological Neptune and the Quest for Redemption (p. 296) – Liz Greene, Red Wheel Weiser.
When dealing with the archetypal force of Neptune’s astrological cycle, an insurmountable sense of confusion is likely to arise. Neptunian energy is highly mutable, and as specified by Greene, its elusive essence is hardly clear-cut and definable. The dynamics which arise at times of important alignments of Neptune are highly utopian and therefore surreal. The quest for perfection which the Neptunian individual called to action engages with is often descriptive of a pathway to self-destruction, rather than constructive behavior. As is the case with the other transpersonal planets, Neptune’s influence is connected with the interests of the collective, rather than that of the individual. The effects which can derive from its force are unquantifiable and unbounded, because the expansion of consciousness this planet calls for is infinite. This means that, under specific configurations which involve Neptune, the result can be messianic and self-righteous. Such attitudes can be translated into “good” or “bad” actions which have the incredible potential to drive society towards an either empathic or fanatic experience.
The latest New Moon in Gemini, which marked the current “monthly trend”, formed a square with Mars in Pisces. The Red Planet’s transit through this Water Sign indicates some kind of “energetic dispersion“, because the one-pointed action of Mars is not easily kept on track in there. This is a vital consideration which helps us understand the uncontainable wave of confused anger which is occurring around the world, and especially in the USA.
The interesting fact about the current Lunar Month is that each phase of the cycle brings this unconstrained activism to the surface. In astrological terms this is identifiable because of the close synchronization between the speeds of the Sun and Mars which, being engaged in a square at the New Moon, carry on tightening such aspect throughout the month. This means that the first quarter, which overtly manifested all the anger of both peaceful and violent groups, saw the Moon in opposition to Mars. The Full Moon will also be a Lunar Eclipse (analyzed in another article called “The Energy Gets Unlocked“), and it will form an almost exact T-Square with Mars across 15 degrees Mutable. The third quarter, a phase which is traditionally perceived as heralding a degeneration of the current trends in order to make room for newness, will bring the Mars-Neptune interaction to a critical point of expression. In fact on June 13th, the day it occurs, these two planets will be in exact conjunction, while the Moon in Pisces will reach them, forming a waning square with the Sun in Gemini. Mars and Neptune won’t meet again on the same longitude until May 18th 2022. The important fact is that the Sun-Moon-Mars-Neptune interaction will closely align with the USA national Mars-Neptune square (Gemini-Virgo), and the President’s natal Sun (22Gemini55). This also means that Trump’s upcoming Solar Return will carry this intensely powerful configuration, which echoes the national Mars-Neptune astrological signature. For the 12 months to come, the interlock between the country and its President is going to be characterized by the combined action of these two different archetypes. Where Neptune is, scandal thrives as well, therefore a two-fold effect is likely to emerge from the configuration involved. Not only is the Administration likely to raise the winds of idealism and strongly engage in national protection policies, but the never-quenched internal criticism which has been accompanying the nation is likely to continue in a similarly blind manner. As already mentioned, all that involves Neptune is in fact a “hall of mirrors”; therefore, it is quite hard to clearly define who is right or wrong in the ongoing disputes, because blaming and self-righteousness claims are going to come from all sides within a country which is approaching a critical point in its own evolutionary path, at a very confused time of social disruption and hopefully healing.
The fact that such a highly charged Lunation is followed by the significant Solar Eclipse in Cancer (for more info read “The Great Eclipse“) is astrologically suggestive of the historic importance of these very weeks.
Mars, known as “Ares” in Ancient Greece, is often depicted as a bloodthirsty, violent and insane mythological figure, but its meaning evidently does not have to be described as solely negative. Ares was known as the God of War and his archetypal drive, which resides within everybody, was depicted by the Ancient Greeks as a furious force of nature. Its ferocity undoubtedly resonates with the influence which significant alignments of the Red Planet provoke, but the story is way more articulated. Mars’ action is one-pointed and direct (an outstanding example is the “fighting and quarreling spirit” Donald Trump is always animated with, being born with rising Mars in Leo), and therefore this planet’s “ARCHETYPAL EXPRESSION” is sometimes coincident with the eruption of anger in the form of violent acts of physical or verbal aggression. However, not everybody who carries a prominent configuration of Mars in their natal chart is “violent”, because its force can also be expressed through competitive action of a good type. If the ambitiousness of Mars, whose energy is after all self-centered, is translated into positive competitiveness – such as it happens in sports – enormous potential for growth is encountered. This becomes quite complex if Mars is exasperatedly drained in Watery Pisces, as it gets locked in an outstanding astrological configuration which involves the Utopianism of Neptune. The most important consideration to keep in mind is “trying our best to be cautious and considerate” during these very complex times. Hopefully we will all learn to use the immense creativity of the upcoming Mars-Neptune cycle in powerfully constructive ways.

The months of June and July hold extraordinary power for unlocking situations which have been stuck globally. Three important eclipses are due to occur within the next weeks, and they will set the stage for the six months to come. There is evidence that eclipses, being peculiar lunations, generally reflect massive shifts in the global scenery.
The Lunar Nodes have recently shifted to the Gemini/Sagittarius polarity; they spend around 1.5 years in each sign. With the Nodes hovering within the first degree of Cancer/Capricorn, ready to jump into the neighboring signs, there has been major turmoil and widespread dynamism. Traditionally, those degrees are regarded as majorly influential for the global equilibrium, and the concomitant Mercury-North Node conjunction at 0Cancer28 on May 28th proved significantly noisy, as the USA officially pulled out from the WHO, and widespread protests began ravaging the North American streets. The Nodal influence over society is said to carry a “karmic significance”, however – without sounding too spiritualistic – I would say it relates to the relationship of individuals and the collective with both past and future. Key moments in the Nodes’ journey through the zodiac generally correspond with massive releases of suppressed energy, and this may be either a constructive or destructive process.
With the Nodes shifting into Gemini/Sagittarius, the global focus will move towards issues of an international and intellectual type. Travel, trade and information will be the areas which undergo scrutiny during the next year and a half. The Nodes’ influence often remains quite subtle, especially when looking at individual lives, but their dance through the zodiac can be seen to synchronize with the overall trends of society at large, affecting finances, politics and science.
The first one to occur this season falls at 15Sagittarius34, in tight square to Mars in Pisces, and it is of the South Node type. It won’t be visible from the American continent, but Europe and most of Asia will be able to appreciate it.
Simplifying facts, we can say that because it occurs after the Nodal sign shift, this Sagittarius Lunar Eclipse comes at a time which strongly promotes the reassessment of foreign travel and trade issues. Being a Lunar Eclipse, and therefore a Full Moon, it relates to interactions between opposing realities, and possibly widespread confrontations. Accompanied by “nervous” Mars as well as retrograde Venus in Airy Gemini, there seems to be little diplomacy around these times. By looking at the global events, we can understand how foreign travel and trade have reached a critical point, severely affected by the ongoing wave of lock-downs which has practically halted, or at least reduced, many important activities. The eclipse in question is ruled by Jupiter, which at this time remains quite active in its retrograde trip together with Pluto in Capricorn. As specified in the previous article, the second Jupiter-Pluto conjunction is due to occur on June 30th, at a time which will probably see a full re-ignition of the recent issues connected with the global business.
Mars forms a tight square to the Sun-Moon opposition from 15 degrees Pisces, as it travels towards its upcoming conjunction with Neptune, which will occur on June 13th. This indicates how this eclipse inevitably carries enormous strength, anger and resentment. The unpredictability which often accompanies eclipses may ignite enormous shifts in the social equilibrium which, on the long run, will potentially prove to be positive. The feeling associated with this peculiar astrological configuration is one of breaking away from past restrictions, addressing issues of a sacrificial nature. The Mars-Neptune conjunction in Pisces will occur in opposition to the USA’s Neptune and square national Mars; not only is a hard aspect which is contained in the national chart repeated in the skies, but it will also reoccur in close alignment to the original planetary placements. This year’s Mars-Neptune conjunction carries a sacrificial feeling, as it speaks of self-immolation for the good of society at large. The anger that has been erupting all across the US is indicative of numerous underlying issues which are now being addressed powerfully, as the global community seeks answers for the never-ending pain of both the pandemic and social struggles. There is also potential for immense creativity and glamorous force in each Mars-Neptune square, and hopefully creative outlets will be found soon enough before the situation gets incredibly unstable.
It has to be said that, considering the enormous potential for “self-righteous fighting” which accompanies this eclipse, the risk of illusion is quite high. It is likely that the Mars-Neptune conjunction will powerfully and visibly reignite further interventions of the USA in foreign politics and even armed conflict in the near future. Mars-Neptune alignments can be extremely creative or destructive, with the latter being characterized by the emergence of utter blindness to our wounding ability. Sadly, unconstrained violence often erupts at times such as these, because the down side of this aspect reflects a potential for unconstrained eruptions of suppressed anger, which may also lead to harshly regrettable actions. The degree of uncertainty which accompanies these weeks is enormous and, despite its underlying creative potential, it may initially lead to very unpleasant outcomes.
High volatility may afflict the stock market during the coming weeks, due to the peculiar amount of intensely charged astrological configurations. The Sagittarius Lunar Eclipse may bring further destabilization to the global trade, with harsher developments to follow in the coming weeks, as two other major eclipses will come. It is not a secret that during eclipse seasons there is increased economic uncertainty, simply because the markets after all reflect the emotional ups and downs which regulate both individuals and society at large. The Nodal shift into trade and information-associated signs is likely to prove quite powerful, given the fact that is it accompanied by the arrival of such important lunations, as well as the Mars-Neptune conjunction in another Mutable sign.
Understandably, the global picture may look quite grim right now, but it is important to keep perspective in all this, never forgetting that MAJOR HISTORICAL changes are occurring around the world. Many are probably not aware of the irreversible evolutionary actions which are being taken by the global community right now, but all of this will become evident in the years to come. We should perhaps feel blessed to be living in times of great change, though painful it results to be when you become part of the process of social growth.
